How (not) to die

There is a famous saying: “There are only two certainties in life – death and taxes”.

Whoever came up with that one didn’t visit a tax haven like Monaco.

So that leaves one thing certain – death…

Although the elixir of immortality is around the corner (and has been for decades), the evidence suggests that your average life expectancy in Australia is 81.3 years for men and 85.6 years for females.

Now this is just an average, and you can easily decrease your life expectancy by engaging in the following:

  • Sedentary lifestyle

  • Socially isolating

  • Unhealthy food choices (e.g. highly processed, deep fried, high in sugar or saturated fat)

  • Excessive alcohol use

  • Lack of exercise

  • Less than 6 hours of sleep a night

  • Not hydrated

These activities increase your ‘all-known-mortality’ – the chance that anything in your life can either kill you or shorten your life. These activities are also associated with reductions in vitality, well-being, happiness, life satisfaction, and achievement in life.

But we know this right? It’s common knowledge after all…

What are the factors that reduce all-known-mortality you might say?

Meta-analyses suggest that the 4 biggest factors to reduce all-known-mortality are:

  • Non-smoking

  • Mediterranean Diet

  • 180 minutes of exercise per week

  • Less than 2 standard alcoholic drinks per week

The research indicates that engaging in these activities greatly increases vitality, well-being, happiness, life satisfaction, and achievement in life.

If you are doing all 4 activities above – congratulations! You are ready to move on to optimising sleep, hydration, and breathwork.

If currently, you aren’t engaging in all of the 4 factors above to reduce all-known-mortality: 1) pick the one you are struggling with the most, and 2) experiment slowly implementing the desired behaviour over the next 4 weeks.

Now I have been doing a lot of research into this area (longevity and reducing all-known-mortality), and I have discovered that one can reduce your all-known-mortality by 95% - if you make a few simple changes in your life. I have created a program to not only reduce all-known-mortality – but to thrive…
